"Sugar In The Gas Tank were a somewhat last minute addition to the NPFM, but they offered a nice change of pace with their early 2000s blink 182-esque brand of pop punk. Their catchy riffs and upbeat tempo gave me flashbacks to my younger Warped Tour days and showed me a side of Nashville punk that I hadn’t seen in years, but was glad to have present."

Sugar in the Gas Tank is a rising Pop-Punk/Alternative band composed of four Belmont students aiming to bring back the early 2000’s punk scene. Nashville rock radio station, The Local Buzz, has recently been promoting the band’s new song “On My Own,” and the band was recently featured in The Local Buzz’s weekly article 5 Songs You Should Hear Right Now for the second time.

Curb College student Luke Dapuzzo, vocalist and guitarist, founded the band in Fall of 2019. Dapuzzo is joined by fellow Curb College students Reese Marshall on drums, CJ Christianson on guitar and Jack Samter on bass.

Previously featured on the list for their song “Bye,” released in November 2020, radio personality Andy Herrin continues to rave about the band’s latest July release, “On My Own.” Herrin writes, “When it comes to keeping the rock ‘n’ roll sound of pop punk alive, few do it better than Sugar In The Gas Tank…these guys have lyrics that take on more serious tones yet they never take themselves too seriously and that’s one of the many great things about them.”

Sugar in The Gas Tank- On My Own”

When it comes to keeping the rock n roll sound of pop punk alive, few do it better than Sugar In The Gas Tank. These guys always take me back to when music was fun and rock n roll was all that mattered. It’s not all fun n games though as sometims these guys have lyrics that take on more serious tones yet they never take themselves too seriously and that’s one of the many great things about them. Turn up “On My Own” LOUD right now and you’ll feel the exact opposite of that, you’ll feel like you’re rocking n rolling with your 4 new best friends.

Sugar In The Gas Tank- “Bye”

I recently came across one of my new favorite bands in town, Sugar In The Gas Tank. Their name struck me from the second I saw their Instagram page and then I found myself singing their song, “Bye”, in my head all day long.  It’s the kind of song I feel like you’d hear in a movie at the end when a person realizes he made the right decision. They’re a newer band to the scene in Nashville and if this song is a sign of what’s to come, when shows come back, I feel like these boys will be selling out clubs for sure. Check out “Bye” below.
